Boyfriends

I was feeling a little rockabilly tonight.  The 40's inspired leopard job was found at Forever 21. Being the sucker for leopard print, I couldn't pass this one up.  Yes, it is a bit trashy...but what the hell...I have hips, let the world enjoy them.  Never mind the vaguely vapid expression...I probably had muffins on the mind or something...

Twinkle and her boyfriend invited me out to see the Theater Fire play in Dallas tonight.  Apparently, the drummer is the brother of Twinkle's boyfriend (who happens to be a drummer himself).  The night went on with the usual wash of good company and music.  Twinkle seems so much happier these days; she and I can't help but to gush about our boyfriends.  We both have come to the conclusion that the people we are with are the most genuine, kind, and loving boys that we have ever had the pleasure of being associated with.  She and I are on the same wavelength. My name is Mary, but you can call me Serendipity.

Baby, I'm your honey bee

I am noticing a trend in my wardrobe: black, white and yellow.  My inner-honey bee is screaming for release.  The dress was found at the local thrift store for three bucks. Actually, I already own a similar dress, but I have the tendency to be attracted to items that I already posses.  Doesn't matter, this dress is better than the other anyhow.

On a side note, my mother has become increasingly interested in indie music. Just today she asked me if I have heard of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.  Awwww mommy, of course I have! Recently I turned her on to Fleet Foxes and suggested some Rosebuds.  Although, I must be careful.  After introducing her to Flight of The Concords she has turned into a complete fangirl.

All dressed up with nowhere to go. That statement needs to be tattooed on my forehead.  The dress was purchased at the Buffalo Exchange (well, more like I traded old clothes for it). Its a little big around the torso and bust, so synching it in with a thrifted belt does the trick.  I found the sandals at a Mervyns or something...I was actually looking for a pair of flat sandals, but I walk out with a pair of high heeled platforms. Figures.

Music for 15 year old girls to be kissed by.

Sometimes I just need that unapologetically self indulgent music that makes me feel like a boy-crazy teenager.  Its funny, considering I never really went through that phase. I guess I get to experience it through the filter of a 23 year old who has a soft spot for sappy music.
listen for yourself

Reading and listening to Leonard Cohen makes me aware that I can never experience nor articulate emotion on comparable level.  In fact, his work highlights a certain emptiness that all who are not Leonard Cohen exhibit.

This evening a beautiful storm blew into town; lighting creeping through the grey clouds and silent thunder. Made me realize how much I missed weather. Living further to the coast, I would experience some of the most wonderfully fierce thunderstorms. I would relish those dark mornings and wake-up to the subtle pitter-patter of rain on the trees outside my bedroom.  Sometimes this constant sunshine feels like one long, hot, day that drudges on all summer. A little variety would be greatly appreciated.

Trying out Etsy again. Have a surplus of items that I need to free myself of.  Got some great boots, a belt, beautiful scarf and some truly 80's cocktail dresses.  Take a look-see!

I dreamed last night that I saw a rainbow in the night sky. It was like some beautiful harbinger of the end. Speaking of colors of the night, I am pleased to see my boyfriend picking up the camera and playing the roll of photographer. :)

Last night I learned that I am far too cool for my old haunt.

The dress was purchased from Forever 21 a few years ago. The strap on it has been broken for some time, but I have just now fixed it so I can wear it in this oppressive heat. I know it is entirely too hot for hats...but dammit, its my head and Im gonna put what I want on it.

Left to my own devices again.  Maybe with these idle hands I can do something beautiful. Maybe tonight I can have a little fun.  Maybe tomorrow I will wash my car.  Maybe next week I will call up someone and make a plan. Maybe next month I will be making some money. Maybe next year I will know something I didn't know before.

missing phone chargers and pho

Today's outfit is about 90% vintage.  The top is a little polyester piece that my grandmother made.  There is actually a matching skirt, but it is sleeping in my mother's closet.  I think it would be too much print anyhow.  Not entirely sure how my well endowed grandmother was able to wear this thing...it feels a little snug even with my padded bra!  The glasses do look quite silly.  But, I have the deepest belief that one should infuse a bit of humor in one's wardrobe...besides, what is life worth living if we can't make fun of ourselves.

My phone charger has gone mysteriously missing. It was one of those scenarios where you were JUST holding the object, then it just slipped into an unknown realm.  I hope its safe with all my missing sunglasses and left socks.

Today I take my sister back to the airport; but before we go, she and I are going to meet up with a good friend for some Pho. Mmmmm huge bowls of Vietnamese noodle soup...

As airy as this outfit is, it is still too hot.  No amount of nakedness could save you from today's heat.  My sister and I ventured out to town for a drinky and a plate of fried mushrooms.  Later, we went down to the creek to take a few pictures, like we did in the old days.  Im just in love with this ruffle skirt...its wonderfully girly and perfect for the heat. Once again, the thrifted pumps give me the perfect punch of red.  The bow was purchased at an antique shop.  Im surprised at how well it sits on the head without any kind of support. Neat-o!

JoEllen always manages to look so ethereal.  The creek was lined with enormous cypress trees along the water's edge.  Surely those trees have been there for hundreds and hundreds of years. I wish I could of spent my entire childhood here.

Hot hot hot. The heat steams the brain in your little skull.  Its enough to make one go insane.  But, once the heat subsides, and stars peak through the sheer veil of dusk, the night makes me forget the brutality of the light.

There is a magic here. Its a little magic...and it is fleeting...but it does exist.  Laying in the river and listening to the water babble soothes the soul.  The riverbed is fractured like wrinkles on old flesh.

My grandfather is an old mountain.  A mountain that walks, spits, sings and drinks wine.  Sometimes when I look at him, I think that I too might be able to live forever. I like to think that he has somehow beat the system.  In some way, he has.

Its been about three and a half years since my sister and I moved out of our parent's house, and a year and a half since JoEllen split for the West coast.  Christmas was the last time the four of us have been together for any significant amount of time...so, these last few days (and upcoming week) mean much to me in terms of reconnection.  I relish in watching my mother beam with glee when she is around her two daughters.  She misses us on a monumental level and can barely contain her enthusiasm when we are all around...it's incredibly cute!

I think we are all a little broken hearted.

But, slowly, quietly, the sting of distance begins to fade.

Landed

Currently sitting in my breakfast nook (nooks!)  with my sister and mother.  Actually, its a really dorky setting: all three of us are gathered around the table on our Macs, playing with Polyvore.  I introduced my mother to it...its so cute, she keeps saying that it reminds her of paper dolls.

Here is the set my mommy made.  Quite stylish, no?

Wolves balls

I know. The shirt is hideous (hideously righteous).  My boyfriend hates this shirt...and rightfully so...he just laughs at me and calls me silly.  I wear this outfit at the risk of looking like a dirty hipster; but I have been lusting for a horrible wolf shirt for some time now.  Preferably one with lighting in the background...or perhaps a wizard.

Today I received this wonderful little pair of pearly, cat-eye frames.  Unfortunately they are slighting warped, but I suppose that comes with the territory when buying vintage frames.  Eventually I plan to have my prescription lenses put in them.

Today my sister and I are awaiting the arrival of our parents.  My tiny one-bedroom apartment is about to be bombarded with the hyper-tensive energy of my father and the girly gleefulness of my mother.  Now in the meantime, my sister and I need to find something to preoccupy ourselves with.

Think, Betty page meets Enid

Its all about attitude, dearies.  I have actually been scouring for a great pear of yellow pumps. I just know they would go with a bajillion outfits that I have yet to have worn.  Now, if I only had a Harley to jump on I could justify actually dressing like this.

Airports are my second home.

I give one person away, but only to pick up another.  My sister arrives in Dallas today for our "family reunion tour '08".  Looking forward to seeing my LA sis again.  I haven't seen her since early February, and can't wait for her to be bored to tears in my little apartment.

On a completely different note: the hummus I made yesterday has too much garlic in it..yuck..yet I keep eating it. Dumb.

Todays outfit is a little more earthy than I usually go for.  I tend to gravitate towards more bold prints, and bright colors. The dress was purchased at Target. When I first bought it, I wasn't even convinced that I liked it...but all it needed was a little vest to cinch it in.  The boots were a GREAT find at my local thrift store.  I had been looking for a little pair of pixi boots for a while, and for three bucks they were a steal!  Got a bit of a 70's vibe going on today.  The quaff is extra spazzed today. Damn my hairstylists and his razor.  I look slightly unhinged in this picture.

Cheeks

Im still reeling a bit after this haircut.  I wanted my bangs back, but I dunno...not entirely convinced this do is for me.  Nevertheless Im tryin' to work with what I got.  I have been experimenting with pulling the sides back and exposing my cheeks. It seriously makes me feel nervous!  I have a particularly round face, and no cheekbones to speak of...so Im just wondering if this look works for me.

Today has been a profoundly dull day.  I got up around 8, got dressed at about 9:30 then ventured out to buy cat food.  Yesterday I had to see my boyfriend off to the airport; he had been living with me for the past month-and-a-half.  His absence is quite devastating...to go from 24 hr, face to face contact right back to chatting online..well..its hard.  But we will just soldier on like we have been doing for the past year or so.

On a side note... to whomever reads this blog, please forgive the scarce material. Im working on it!

I have been thinking about doing this for a while...

Lord knows that I am suscribed to just about every blog/photo community/profile/myspace-like website on the planet.  Now my collection is complete!

Actually, I felt that I needed a fresh place to start posting about fashion/music/my life/hummus/whatever.  Now, I know that I am not particularly good at keeping blogs, or don't have anything huge to contribute to this internet society ( other than my horrible inflated ego). But, Myspace's blogging capabilities are shitty at best and my Livejournal account pretty much belongs to my sister.  I have stopped posting on Livejournal ages ago when I fell out of the whole cosplay community.

So, here we have it; a fresh place for me to start and hopefully not abandon.
